Default My 7 yr old Granddaughters first quilt

This is my granddaughter, Emily, who turned 7 in June. She picked all the fabrics for her quilt, arranged them on the design board after they were cut and began sewing them together. Her Mom or I pinned and pressed for her and the little minx started piecing. There were only 5 seams in all those blocks that had to be ripped and resewn(less than what I probably rip in a quilt). She was so proud. She has put a framing border on and the only thing left is the outside borders. I am amazed at the skill a 7 year old has in this quilt. She kept telling me "I am so excited sewing my own quilt.". I will post the finished quilt when it is totally quilted. Does it get any better than this? Now she is referring to my FW as her sewing machine.

Hooray for your Emily. Way to go Gram. It's such a joy to watch their faces when they accomplish a project! It's how we build self esteem in kids--it's not given, but earned.
I, too, have been teaching GD Emily (8) to sew and I don't know who's enjoying it more.

What a cutie, she is a natural quilter. No, it doesn't get any better than that and she has my vote for her claim on the FW

Another new quilter from the next generation. I love it. One day I won't be the youngest anymore.

Wow!! That is waaaaay better than my first quilt!!! She is a SUPERSTAR in the world of quilting! Go for it, Emily. And by the way, possession is 9/10,s of the law. I think you should claim the FW! Way to go!!!

It looks like Emily is a natural! Now, honestly, who had the most fun--Emily or Grandma? Maybe there will be an inexpensive sewing machine in her future so that you can reclaim your FW.

I can hardly wait until my 3 year old GD, Hailey, is at that point. She loves to sit on my lap and watch me chain piece. She keeps urging me on, saying "Nother one Nana! Nother one!"
