This is a placemat I made for a customer of mine. she gave me a couple place mats that are of a velour type material and wanted me to do something with them. she adores her Shitsu so this is my first attempt at applique. I appliqued them on material first in case I didnt llike it then fused and blanket stitched it on the placemat. did the same for the butterflies though they are machine embroidered. Now to do the other place mat. I dont really want to do another.. LOL

Turned out really cute. I don't like doing more than one of an item either. Guess that's why I don't have placemats.

I love the applique. We have a ShihTzu and they are wonderful dogs.

Beautiful ... you really captured the dog's face ... a work of art! If they were mine, I'm not sure I would use them. I sure would hate for someone to drop spaghetti sauce on one of these placemats! :D

That is absolutely gorgeous!

Does the second placemat have to be identical?

Also, someone on this board mentioned clear, fusible vinyl. Would that work to cover the placemats and that way she would not have to worry about spills/stains?

If it was me, I would make them into wall hangings. You might ask her if she decides to do that what the best way to hang them would be. A lady at a local quilt store told me to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and get a small curtain rod with clips on it to hold small wall hangings.
