My Asian Bargello WIP
#1
I know I haven't finished piecing the top yet, but I'm already really excited about how I plan on quilting this one.
I'm planning on doing a large dragon in each of the corners, and a really large koi fish (*sp?) in the center. For the rest of the space, I was thinking a really basic Sashiko style stitch to not draw away from the rest of the quilting design, but kind of sticks to the theme of the fabrics.
Also, if anyone has any links for a really nice koi fish or dragon, I'm still searching for the perfect ones.
This is my first Bargello. Do you think the quilting I have in mind will make it look too busy? I plan on doing it by hand with a dark blue cotton thread. (Maybe this is why it usually takes me so long to complete a quilt.)
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at what I'm working on! I'm really looking forward to all the insight you have to share.

Please don't mind the wave, I have something under the top.

This quilt is going to be beautiful but I am worried that you won't really see the quilting designs at all in the busy-ness of the bargello and all the fabric. It would be a shame to do all that work and not hardly be able to see it. My experience with quilting on busy prints is the quilting just doesn't show. Your idea is divine but I think it would be better saved for a plainer fabric so the koi and dragon really show! Then again, you could back it with a solid plain fabric and they would really show from the back.
Edited to add, for hand quilting it will be difficult going through all the seams of a bargello as well. I hate to sound like I am raining on your parade or being all negative, this is just my experience.
