I was ask about the quilt in my avatar. I think I may have posted it before...but not sure. So here is the story. My best friend & I saved selvages forever...then decided to get together and do something with them. I just decided to do a string quilt, but concentrate on color blocks and this is what I came up with. No pattern. Just started everything on a 8 1/2 inch block, then for the borders I used 4 1/2 & 2 1/2 inch by 8 1/2 strips(that is unfinished sizes) Had a lot of fun sorting through all our selvages to sort by color....and I still have enough to do several more quilts....guess I better get busy!!!

It looks so great. It is a rags to riches quilt

I love that. How wide are your salvages? A friend is saving salvages to do something so I'm going to send her your pictures. Its very creative. Thanks for sharing

A couple of inches is ideal,...but some of ours were barely wide enough to use. We didn't really know to cut a little extra off with the selvage when we first started saving, but we do now..LOL! I would say mostly about 1 1/2 inches!
