While on vacation in NY, my college friend and I went to a quilt shop. I was looking for a bow tuck pattern and she found a different one called Pockets All Around. She said that she will buy me both patterns if I would sew her purse for her. I agreed [sigh] before thinking.... I'd never sewn one before and she is very particular. She spent nearly an hour picking out the fabrics and bought all the needed supplies. After a few days recovery from the drive, I started the purse. Then found I needed to drive back to NY for a funeral. So I rushed to finish the purse but didn't do a label. When I delivered it to her, she was just thrilled... but did ask about the label. I told her that when I returned home, I'd embroider the label on the lining fabric. Well, I tried 6 times to do the embroidery on the lining fabric with the thread continually breaking, changing the density of the design, the stabilizer, etc. I finally gave up on the lining fabric and used white cotton. Turns out the machine didn't like the lining fabric. The label's in the mail :)

Oh yes, I added an extra strip to the inside pockets to make it easier to see them and to avoid wear. I also added a firm bottom with plastic canvas, curving the top piece and sewing it to the bottom piece to prevent drooping. It was placed in a sleeve that tucks into its center so it can be removed to be washed.

Beautiful fabric and a good job sewing. I've never seen the plastic bottom with the curved piece before. Good thinking!
