This week at our Goodwill they have 75% off all winter items, including coats, sweaters and any long sleeve shirts. I found these 100% cotton long sleeve men's shirts, all high quality, name brand, like-new fabric. I washed them as soon as I got home and I'm looking forward to cutting them up tonight and adding the fabric to my stash.

Best part - the shirts are $3, but with 75% off, I paid 75 cents for each one. That is a lot of nice fabric for 75 cents each!

Yes! I've done that too... particularly for checks/plaids. I find the super duper 3x shirts in Goodwill's men's section for pennies. That and some women's skirts or denim dresses if you're doing a denim quilt. All good.

I once... ONCE... bought 5 yards of purple denim from a fabric store (not a LQS) only to have it run... and run... and run. Something like 15 washes later, with all kinds of additives, 'dye catchers' and the like.... it STILL runs, even though it's now a very light gray-lilac... with streaks. <sigh> Money wasted. Now, when I want denim for a quilt, I goto Goodwill/thrift stores and buy ladies jumper dresses. At least they are so well washed, they have great 'hand' and don't run!

So far, I've cut up that nasty lilac denim to use as seat covers for my stool, sewing bench and drafting chair in my sewing room. If/when they get dirty...I'll THROW them away and sew up new ones. I'm orn'ry enough to find SOMETHING to use that nasty fabric on.

This is a fine idea for reusing your own supply of clothing; but I can't help but think of the people that really need those clothes to wear; and have to go shopping there and can't find anything nice.

I would most certainly agree with you on this, if these shirts were the last seven in the store, or even if they were among the last 20 or 30 in the store. But, they were 7 of probably 300 or 400 shirts that were still left in the store, after several days of these being offered at 75 cents each. I really do not think that I was depriving anyone of needed clothing.

Yes, but Goodwill uses the revenue from the store sales to help people with job training, so they still win!
