Here is a quilt i made my grandaughter for Christmas. I did a double irish chain, and then a diamond in square to alternate. I made the mistake of asking her if there was anything special she would like on her quilt lol well, she said, grandma, i would just love some bunnies and hearts, but just if you can do them grandma...soooo, this turned out to be a really hard quilt to do. I dont have a long arm machine, and trying to quilt it when i got to the centre of the quilt was really hard! lol, so next time i will divide my quilt in quarters, and quilt smaller pieces. Anyways, this was my very first attempt at applique, and ohhhh, it was hard. I tried to turn the edges under on the bunnies and hearts, but it was too hard to do, so i just zigzagged them, but i dont know if i ever want to try applique again, but i did get it finished, and she just loved it. I am learning as i go, and i think next time i should have put some quilting in the wide border too, but i'm learning :)

The bunnies make it special - it really is filled with love, and it shows.

Awe, thanks! I kinda made a BIG mistake doing it though! lol Cus i'd never done applique, i quilted the whole quilt, batting and all, then tried to attach the bunnies after! lol And trying to do it by machine was even harder, trying to turn the whole bulk of the quilt through the machine! lol lol Learn as i go :)

Hi Barb! Wonderful quilt! I like to do applique but there are lots and lots of ways to do it. I use freezer paper. I draw or trace the designs onto the paper side, cut out the shapes, and press the patterns onto the wrong side of the fabric. I then cut them out with a small turn under allowance. Clip the fabric up to the edge of the paper and then pin the design onto the quilt. Turn the fabric under the paper with your needle while you stitch the applique on. After that you can clip the back of the quilting fabric and pull the paper out. It's really not as hard as it sounds but I know a lot of people zigzag the designs on. One of my baby quilts was done that way with angels. Have to send in some pics now that I have learned to down size them so they go through!!! Getting more puter savy all the time.
