Default My Grinch Quilt

This is my first large quilt, just finished it this morning!

It's about 5' x 7' (I wanted it long enough to cover my feet if I'm laying down). I started with a panel from Fabric Depot (in Portland), and then bought the other fabric at JoAnn Fabrics. When I cut the panel, the squares weren't square, so I decided to add a border to each one and make them intentionally wonky. The finished square was 11", so I went with that for my blocks. I looked for Grinch flannel for the backing, but didn't find any. However, I found a nice Grinch fleece and decided to use that (and skip the batting).

This one is all machine pieced and then I "stitched in the ditch" for the quilting. The final part was finding a fabric I liked for the binding, and found the perfect one. I haven't done a biased binding before, but I really liked how it would look on the bias rather than a straight binding.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (It's much more even than the photo makes it look--taken at a bit of an angle and a fan was blowing it.)

I had some leftover fabric, so I made a couple stockings for my son and myself.

Very cute! I love using stripe fabric cut on the bias for binding and it's perfect for your quilt! Cute stockings too.

What a fun quilt. I'm going to try that fleece and no batting idea.
