Hiya,

I made this as a Christmas present for a friend's little girl. The pattern is from the Judy Martin Log Cabin book. Her Mum said she liked 'girly', do you think it's 'girly' enough?!

This is the first time I FMQ'd anything other than squiggles - they're hearts, although some of them look more like kidneys! The large hearts in the corners I did by ironing on a freezer paper template and going round the edge with my walking foot. :D

Quilted round a freezer paper template

FMQ hearts and kidneys! LOL

Wow! It's beautiful. Very elegant and girly! Great job on the quilting, but the piecing is what impresses me.

That should pass the girly test. FMQ is really nice.

Sure is "girlie enough"..I love log cabins and this is great and will have to look into the book...not that I don't have enough already. Love the colors. Keep up the good work

The Judy Martin piecing technique is right back to basics - and it really makes you get a handle on that scant 1/4" seam allowance - you see straight away as you join the next log (everything is pre-cut) whether your previous seam was on the nail OR NOT! My seam ripper DID see quite a bit of action, I have to admit!

Granny - you HAVE to get this book!!! It's a 'must have'! I actually bought it for the Snake River pattern after seeing Dunster's version on here. This pattern in the book is done with 1/2" finished logs and four heart blocks but she gives instructions for 1" finished logs to make it up to queen size. So I simplified things by making the latter, only one block which finished at 25" square, then putting the borders around it. :D
