Default My latest - getting a bit better at this

A good friend of mine supports an orphanage in The Free State South Africa. They teach the girls and women to decorative stitch and sew and they make placemats, potholders, and pillow tops. All work is done with bright colors on black broadcloth. My mom and I help to finish some of their work into tote bags, pillows and placemats too but we had a bunch of "practice" pieces that just were not up to standing alone as a project. So..... i randomly cut them into squares and made a a quilt top! The girls will be able to see their hard work used rather than being discarded as practice only. Now to get up the nerve to quilt it. My first attempt at the piano key border was ok but is quite the challenge when still learning as each side had a slightly different dimension but it just adds to the charm . My friend home schools and the kids will be adding the items they just brought back and the pieces we helped finish to a charity auction website or their mission site very soon as a school project. Very proud to be a part of this.
