My new 'old' sewing machine...love it!
#1
This is my newest machine that I found on ebay. It was a great find and is proving to be a great machine for piecing. I really wanted a featherweight machine but the cost is so high that I settled for this machine. It's a Singer 301 with a long bed. The seller did not package it very well and it came with a thread guide bent flat and the tension knob bent. I took the tension knob off (all the directions were in the owners manual), cleaned it and used tools to bend the parts back into shape, but it back together. I bought a bobbin tire and put it on. I took off the thread guide and used heavy pliers to bend it into shape enough to use it and put it back on. I cleaned the machine and oiled it excessively. I adjusted the top and bottom tension and bought a new package of bobbins at Hancocks and now it sews like a dream. It love it and all for less than $125.00. I love the way that the machine bed sits lower than most standard machines, especially since I sew sitting at the dining room table! It's perfect and has a quiet motor compared to my other old Singer 66 machines. I've been piecing a quilt top for my brother on this old machine and I haven't had any problems!
