Would appreciate some feed back on submitting this quilt for a quilt show in september. Never submitted anything before and don't know if it would be eligible before I send off the application and fee. It is a double knit quilt that I showed on this site before and received alot of compliments. So I thought maybe it was unusual and possibly a good one to show. So let me know your thoughts.

I recently attended a free 2 hour class at my LQS on what to know about entering quilts into our local county fair. There was a lot more to know about than I ever considered, so I suggest you might ask someone connected with your upcoming quilt show what guidelines they go by. They might differ from show to show.

I have one quilt I'm going to enter in our county fair later this summer, a first for me. This class instructor told me one of the best parts for her was receiving the judges oral and written critique of her quilt because she learned so much from it.

Best of luck to you on your very lovely quilt.

as long as the quilt fits into the 'rules' of the show you want to enter go ahead and jump in...some of the 'regulars' may scoff because it is not cotton, but, let them... the only way to learn is to try. if you enter it as a judged quilt you will receive a critique and will have better ideas of what is ok, what doesn't work and why.
if nothing else it should receive raves over the great hand quilting ;).
the judges are going to look at workmanship, technique, whether or not it hangs straight, if the binding is well attached and full to the edge with an appropriate balance of quilting...
good luck

Our county fair is very small and we do not have "real" judges, I do not even know if any of them sew. They just pick the ones they like best for the class. So enter!

My best advice is to have fun! I entered my first local quilt show last year and it was the biggest thrill just to see my quilt hanging in the show and chatting with people who stopped to admire it. The show did not give me any written critique on the quilt when I picked it up. I have a feeling the only ribbons they award are peoples choice and vendors choice. They only judge the hosting guilds quilt challenge entries as far as I could tell. I would love to get a written critique because then I would know what needs to be worked on for a show quilt.
I entered without any hopes or expectations so I was not disappointed and had a blast. I have yet to enter any of my quilts in the fair but have entered other things (canned goods and painted objects) and have won. It was a thrill getting the ribbons and the small cash prizes given. There was no critique on those items either.
