This is my new/old sewing machine. I would like to find out how old it is, and where I can get threading directions or a manual.
I got it for a dollar because otherwise they(the thrift store) would've
thrown it out. Model number is 158.17032
It is a sears kenmore

I think there is a site on line to print out manuals...goggle it. I don't know if my old kenmore manual would help or not. one thing I would do is oil! oil! these old machines need alot and you will be surprised how quiet she will run.

The top picture looks like at one time this machine had cams Here is a picture of mine it is probobly 60's as I bought it used in the 70's. Still works like a charm! Those brown things on top are a couple of the cams.

similar to mine i have three settings one is set on 10 for stitching and the others are set on S... for straight stitching .it once had cams.....mine has a pu :D sh button reverse and a button to turn for feed drop

Yours must have been the model right before mine, manufactured in 1973. Yours is in a carrying case, right? Mine is part of a table unit...

I use a Kenmore that I got for high school graduation in 1970!! My mother used it while I was in college and until she died in 1987. The manual was no where to be found. Mine is easy to thread but it also has the cams to fit the top for various stitches and I have never used them. Good luck. I might want to find a manual too!!!

i have a kenmore that i bought new in 1970 , model #158.16012.
i have my original manual and if it would help anybody, i'd be glad to scan each page and email to you. it has the cams too that go in the top, i've kept it in very good condition and i still use it some. but you can over-oil this machine, mine says 1-3 drops of oil every 6 months. the cabinet didn't come with it, i bought that at a junk store, it's an old singer cabinet but no machine was in it, a friend cut me a piece of wood for the top so i could just sit my machine on it. works great. poor people have poor ways don't we?
