I started this quilt a LOOONGGG time ago. I started hand quilting the squares in the middle; that went well. But when I tried to stitch in the ditch by hand, I couldn't get the needle through the fabric. So I finally decided to try machine quilting that part. Don't know why it took me so long to figure out that it was OK to use hand quilting and machine quilting all in the same quilt. Unfortunately, I was REALLY new at machine quilting, so I made it much more difficult than it had to be. Last weekend I finally got it out again, and it was rapidly apparent how I should do the machine quilting. Then I got kind of full of myself when I got to the binding, because I've done that so many times I could do it in my sleep. Messed it up twice and had to take it apart and re-do it. I have to say, I learned a LOT making this quilt. The most important lesson it taught me is one I will share with all of you:

NEVER USE A LOT OF BLACK IN A QUILT IF YOU LIVE WITH SEVERAL CATS! I thought I'd never get all the cat hair off of this thing--as a matter of fact, I still haven't gotten it all off, but I'm tired of trying for now!

As a suggestion, you can send it to me and I'll pick off all the cat hair, real, real slow. Then I'll start on the dog hair that will get on it from here and pick that off, real, real slow.

Hey, just doin' what I can to help out a fellow quilter! :lol:

Wonderful job too! The fab combo is striking.

Wonderful job. I just live with the cat hair. I keep a lint brush in the car and deal with it before I walk into work. :wink:

You have done a fantastic job with this lovely quilt. I do both types of quilting on a quilt without any qualms. Now you can sit back with a nice sense of achievement that this one is no longer a UFO or a WIP!
