I appreciate all of the responses. JT, I got my fabric on ebay. I actually found it with red and gold backgrounds, as well as the black. I bought all three, as I will be the "quilt lady" for this yearly auction for years and years. :)

I actually have some blue fabric, Amma, so that might work as well. I have gray and black too, so tomorrow I will do some experimenting and see what I like best.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wouldn't mind more, if anyone else has an idea.

Yes, my quilt inspector (named Hot Rod) is a big cat. He weighs 16 pounds. Once upon a time he was a feral cat, but no more. He makes my 50 x 70 inch quilt top look small.

Your quilt is awesome. I love the pattern you went with. Sets them off perfectly. I agree with a gray and then a black border. Great job.

I also think some blue will bring out the cars.

I agree with Amma! I think a touch of blue would just set it off so well.

I didn't read all the replies so this might be a dup. What about three borders - the first black, the second black and white to look like the white stripes on a road, then the third black. So it looks like a road??? Well, it looks nice in my head...LOL

Narrow black, then wide blue with a black binding. Gray doesn't do it for me. You could do a checkerboard just before the binding with the red, blue, gray and black + white? I did one on the quilt I just posted because the quilt came out too small. It wasn't hard and adds a nice touch.
