I posted this quilt that my mom made the other day. She wants to get it quilted, but not sure what to do. I hope to have pvquilter (Joyce) do the quilting. What do you suggest to do for the quilting?? What thread color? Joyce has given us a wonderful suggestion of loop meandering around the snowflakes using a blue varigated thread. Mom only has a few requirements...no metallic threads and no stitching through the snowflakes. She really wants them to pop. She isn't sure if the quilting should be in white or blue since the background varies as they are batiks. The snowflakes are printed on the fabric, they are not appliqued. Please take a look and let me know what you think. With all the expertise on this board, I know I will get some fantastic suggestions!! Thanks so much for your help! We are looking forward to your responses!

for some wonderful ideas to make those snowflakes pop with quilting. Granted, Leah did trapunto on her snowflakes but the idea of very tight FMQ around every snowflake really does make them pop.

I'm not very confident on deciding the right quilting for a particular quilt... (still learning), but I had to just say.... I'm drooling.

That is one absolutely beautiful quilt and thank you for posting the photo. :D Love the fabric and the pattern.

Love the quilt. Blue is my favorite. What about quilting with a varigated blue thread? I've used some varigated thread for quilting and LOVE it. Just one opinion.

If it were me, I'd do the meandering free-motion quilting tightly (like stippling) around each snowflake so that the snowflakes standout from the background. Using a variegated blue thread would be pretty, too, but I'd stay away from a really light thread as it would probably detract from the snowflakes. Beautiful quilt!

OMG! That's so beautiful! Who makes that fabric? I love it and love your layout. I agree a blue variegated thread and some background filler around the snowflakes. The links posted are perfect examples! Please post a picture when it's done!

It is done in MODA's Let It Snow batik collecton(blue/silver batiks). Backing and binding will be in the same fabric. I believe she still has the last border to put on.

The pattern maker is Laundry Basket Quilts and I believe the pattern is from 2008. It is still on their website if anyone is interested.

I agree with Eddie. Using light thread would detract from the snowflakes.
