Newest quilt top is FINALLY a new quilt.

It was really crunch time on this one. I leave tomorrow for a trip home to IL, and the recipient of this quilt is also there. YIKES!!!
I posted somewhere this spring when I got the top F*****ed. Now it is a quilt, sans label. I'm just not done with it and I'll send it on later. So, if memory serves, Patrice and Tim have been in on the process of this quilt from it's inception. I think I've come really far from where I started. I definitely remember the mistakes so I don't repeat them the next time I make one.
I promised to include copyright information when I posted this pic. The name of the quilt is called Scrap Quilt from a 1996 McCall's magazine. I believe the aug issue, but I'd have to go look it up.
I hope I can successfully remember how to post a pic!?!?!

Wow.....Hmmm...little background.
All of the fabric used for this quilt was originally owned by the recipient of this quilt. It's a surprise, she has no idea it's coming or even that her mother sent me a box of her "old things". She's a school chum of mine, known eachother since kindergarten. There are 3 pieces in it that were my contribution. The solid brown, solid gold and a rust/yellow print.
I also have 2 MONSTROUS garbage bags of fabric left over also of hers of Native American prints that didn't make it in. I am colorblind and have a BIG problem seeing colors clearly enough to know what works together and what doesn't. My late mil helped me in picking out which pieces would work best. She lived long enough to see the top done, but not long enough to see it finished. It's a shame. She was really good at that stuff.
I appreciate the comments on the colors though. The layout was all hers. It was a great compilation.

I am so sorry to hear about your mil, making the quilt together must be a bitter sweet memory for you. You both did a wonderful job on it and I am sure that your lifelong friend will adore it and treasure it forever :D

I am glad Patrice and I had some input to your donning of this quilt. I hope in the next week or so to have a done (my first) to add to yours.
You done good for a colorblind person. You done good for a non-colorblind person. I like the border fabric, suits my taste extremely well.
Someone has a real surprise ahead of them.
Take the scraps and make a couple of long strips of fabric (2 1/2 inches wide), one light one dark.. I am talking LONG... join lots of them using the diagonal end piecing method... Then make a log cabin quilt of all those strips, just using up the strips as you go along, two sides dark, two sides light. http://www.nmia.com/~mgdesign/qor/styles/logcabin/log1d.gif
The colors won't matter, just the gorgeous interplay of light and dark. Ultimate scrappy quilt. Piece the blocks out to 12 inches. That particular quilt looks like 2 inch finished strips (2 1/2 inch raw) with a 2 inch sashing running through the quilt.

Wonderful looking quilt, that's going to make your friend cry so be prepared with extra tissues.
Colorblind? I'm sorry but gal you've nailed that quilt with the right combination.
I'm so sorry you've lost a good friend and helper. I've never been lucky enough to have a MIL, both my husbands mothers were already gone before I marred the men. You'll have wonderful memories, won't you?
