After reading some thoughts on string quilts in one of the forums, I was inspired to chop some batik! After I got a little bored with the string blocks, I moved on to some what I call Gee's Bend inspired blocks. Then, I just started going nuts with scraps. There's even a block of Drunkard's Path. It's a bright quilt. Now to attempt the scary part...quilting! Gulp!

Oh Wow, that's awesome  , such fabulous use of the colours and so brave of you to chop into your batiks. We had an article in the local paper about the quilters in Gees Bend and that's all the way over here in New Zealand, so they are getting quite well known.

    A Chele original!
    It is WONDERFUL!
I love the colors you've used and the freedom of expression! Way to go! Your quilting will have to be just as free as the piecing. No fear! Anxiously awaiting your next installment!

Wow, what beautiful quilts. I love the colors! I had never heard of string quilts and from looking at yours, it must be like the blocks in your quilts with the narrow strip pieces. I imagine a lot of different designs can be done with the string blocks, like the log cabin design can be done a number of ways. Will you quilt by hand or machine?
