We have a group of ladies here in Central Oregon that met through this board. We get together once a month. This was the project for our last meeting. One of the ladies taught us how to make these "Not Your Grandmother's Tumbling Blocks". She was an excellant teacher. Here is my version. I don't have a 4th of July tablerunner so this is now on my table.
The colors are a little washed out. Sorry.

I've not done this pattern, but it looks like strips would work if you split the light diamond into two triangles....
