Your mom's quilts are wonderful. The 'old school' quilters are few and far between these days but that's where quilting started..... hand stitching. I bought some hand embroidered blocks that had been made way back. I took the blocks apart and thought they were stitched with a vintage machine but they were hand stitches..... so perfectly stitched. It was amazing. I've never been able to stitch so uniformly that it looks like machine stitching. Hand stitchers are amazing..... Go give your mom a hug and thank her for introducing you to the fun world of quilting. You have a gem there.

Those are, to use a phrase I rarely use: AWESOME! I can sew on buttons really good by hand, but that is the extent of my hand sewing ability. No way in this world could I do what your mom has done.
I'm going to book mark this thread cos it's already been moved and unless I do I'll never find it again.
