I made this quilt about 12 years ago. I wanted a light weight quilt so instead of using batting I just put a layer of muslin in the middle. Yep it was light weight alright. So lightweight, I NEVER used it. Also turned out to be one of those magnetic quilts. Though rarely if ever used, every liquid and stain was drawn to it with animal magnetism. It has been washed alot!
Well my son really likes this quilt, so I decided to make it usable. I took out all the stichings. It was put together with Candle Wicking yarn, and binded with it. It was a beautifully stiched decorative binding. killed me to take it off.
So I relayered it, spent a few weeks hand stiching it and now it is done. Got some dark blue for the binding (candle wicking looked better  )
It is scrappy log cabin, strips are not all the same width. Each center is from the book of Mathew a virtue of happiness. I SITD and then outlined the clouds.
Yes I know some of my clouds fabric is sideways, sigh... back then I made the mistake when cutting it and could not afford to go buy more fabric, so it stayed. The back is white on white doves carrying green olive branches.
It is my favorite quilt, and now it is in my sons room where it will actually be used.

What a beautiful quilt (I rather like the sideways clouds). Well worth re-doing...obviously made with lots of love in every stitch. Thanks for sharing the re-birth...I'm sure there's a lot of quilts out there that could do with a little tweaking to make them more useful. Thanks for sharing.

It is a great quilt. I would have never noticed the clouds if you hadn't mentioned it.

Instead of the clouds being an error......you put them
in different directions to give movement to the background and to add attention to your blocks!
Your son must be happy.
