For the darks, I prefer option # 1 as that black central piece gets framed, showcased and the colors really pop, to my eyes.

For the softer look, I prefer option #2, as the symmetry appeals to me more.

I like #2 on both! I have made some of these and have more planned. I agree that the placement options are tough to choose from! Lots of fun, though!

#1 without a doubt on the autumn runner. The black in the center really makes it pop without the runner looking too dark.
#2 for the pink floral. The first pink looks too busy between all the floral & then diagonal lines running through it.
