This pattern is on an old quilt that we are currently hand quilting. I love this pattern...does anyone have this pattern or know the name of it? I would appreciate any help...thank you soooo much...Elaine

P.S. It makes a winding pattern by reversing the blocks all the way across the quilt...

Does anyone know the name of this block?

It almost looks like grandmothers fan meets drunkards path, you could probably draft one yourself starting out with a drunkards path block

It is a variation of grandma's fan flipped back and forth. Will look when I get home but I got Eleanor Burn's butterflies and Fans for Christmas a couple of years ago and I believe you will find OT or a very close relative in her book.

Thanks for your advice...next time I go to the center, I am going to take tracing paper if I can't find a drunkard's path..it would be pretty easy to trace and add 1/4" seam allowance. There are so many variations you could do with this pattern...you could do a circle for the center block using the fans, and then do the twisting like this pattern to complete the quilt. It's unique...

According to Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, there was a similar Laura Wheeler patttern called "Japanese Fan" (see # 3309). It was divided into three sections, like yours. It also had a smooth edge.
