Does anyone else on here make penny rugs? Have you ever used regular felt instead of wool felt? I love to make these, but have a terrible time, I am allergic to wool. Wondering if reg. cheaper felt holds up as well or if it fades over time.

that is so cute!! I've never sen those before, but I have heard of penny rugs. What about the acrilics that are wool like, or ultra sueade? I know I spelled those wrong, but can"t make the brain work tonight.LOL

I very allergic to wool, also. Our LQS had a new wool felt and gave us samples. Lovely hand to it and I had no reaction to it.

the acrylic (wool) craft felt would be ok to use if you are not going to make something that will be washed...they do not hold up with washing...maybe gently rinsing by hand...but they are more for crafts that do not get laundered. marcus brothers puts out felted wool bundles that are only about 35% wool, they may be a better option. there are always alternatives...i have seen some beautiful penny rugs made with good quality double sided flannel, and homespuns. you do not have to use wool, some fleeces, and micro-fleece fabrics would make wonderful pennyrugs and they do not fray either...
good luck

That picture is so cute! I wonder if a shop near you might let you have a sampletoo, just to see?

Thank you everyone for your advice, I'm going to try each one. I like to use my penny rugs as table toppers, so I'm going to try an acrylic one. Never would have thought of using homespuns, that would be the perfect primitive look.

I "LOVE" your pattern!! Yes, my Mother & I make these quite often, but we always use the felted wool. Of course we aren't allergic to it. I also make candle mats. My Mom just received a new pattern, in the mail today, for a felt table runner. I can't wait to see her get started on it!! These projects are so fun. I wish you luck making yours!!
