I purchased my Wheller & Wilson W9 Treadle sewing machine about 4-5 years ago in an antique shop in Woodland, CA (near Davis & Sacramento), SN 2562153.

I haven't done much with it since then, but can now display it in my revised cutting and stash area (formerly our family room).

The machine needs a new belt at a minimum and a general cleaning. I was able to find a reprint of the machine's manual, which I've ordered.

I've just started to research the machine, but would appreciate any info or tips anyone can offer about rehabiliting this machine. I learned to sew on my Grandmother's Singer treadle, which sadly went to a church rummage sale in 1968.

Here are some photos. Not too good because of the background light.

This is very cool. I have a box that must have held attachments for this machine. It belonged to my great-grandmother. It seems to have been sort of classy, compared to the puzzle box that Singers had. I'm wondering if Wheeler and Wright sewing machines were a "step above"? I really don't know. Unfortunately, I don't have the machine-just the box, which is "carved" on the top.

Nice old girl! Does she have a name yet? Enjoy her!
(Is that a live chicken? Sure looks real in the picture!)

Nope. She is a paper mache or something similar chicken -- might be plaster cast. I have a matching rooster also, but he's under my African violet table.

Used to do live hens but not anymore.

Not sure how to put thread on it or anything.

My first thing is to get a belt replacement and learn more about the machine.

I do belong to a yahoo group for treadle and old sewing machines, but haven't paid too much attention to it lately. guess it would be a good source of info and perhaps supplies.

I'm hoping the manual I ordered will offer some how to info on this baby. She doesn't have a name yet...I'm still thinking about it.
