I assume this is a "southwest" design... and, being in the northeast, I am totally clueless.

Can anybody tell me more about this?

They are called "Kachina Dolls". These are usually made by Indians and they represent different people in the tribes. I can not tell you about the fabric though. Hope this helps.

Alexander Henry calls it "Desert Spirit". They just re-did their website (FINALLY) and have a few interesting new items on it.

'Course, knowing them, it doesn't mean that they are still available. They frequently show the pictures, and just collect orders for a long time, until they either get enough to warrant a printing, or they just give up and delete the print. :|

The are Kachinas, most often associated with the Hopi tribe of northern AZ.

It looks to be various kachina costumes, but not for sure of the Indian tribe represented. Would have to do some checking first!

Kachina's are part of Hopi religious beliefs. They are different spirits/gods that help the Hopi people. They are a big part of their religious ceremonies where Kachina Dancers are present to teach different stories. Dolls were given to children to teach them of the different gods.

Here is a good site for kachinas & they are both Hopi & Navajo, but it will take a little while to identify each of the costumes on the fabric!
