there is someone that is a friend of a friend that wants me to monogram his shirts for him in gold which i have the thread but the question is what to charge him

Depends on how large he wants them. Also I have seen where people that make labels charge per so many stiches.
I agree I wouldn't charge less than $5 per shirt. Hope this helps.

I think $5.00 would be a reasonable price. Depending on how many he wants done you could adjust for volumn.

You can either charge by the inch or by the number of stitches.
It can range from $1.00 per thousand stitches to $3.00 per stitches.
