Qulting nonie sent me this beautifully Paperpieced quilt.
She chose this name because she realized after several quilts she doesn't use much red fabrics..and she doesn't not like red..I think she conquered the red fabrics?

You know during the process of planning this quilt I had changed my mind several times...sometimes the process is easy..and sometimes it is a P-R-O-C-E-S-S.

The lesson:
Part of my job as a Long arm quilter is to try and read the quilt and also the person whom the quilt belongs too ( sometimes hard from a distance)...I am a long arm quilter so for my personal quilts I may get a bit flashy and want to cover the whole quilt with flashy thread..and lots of designs..but sometimes simple is better...IF it is MY quilt I don't care if the quilting shines through (because it is part of me)....so I have to walk a fine line with client quilts that I make their work shine above all of mine and I just compliment or bring out the best in their quilts.

So my original idea for this quilt was to use metallic gold thread on all of the suns and rays....I consulted with Quiltingnonie first because I know that is a bit flashy..she wasn't crazy about that idea..but she liked varigated thread....
I didn't have any red varigated thread...(neither did my LQS) so I used several different reds throughout the quilts....and changed thread several times.
'One of the sun's has brown thread..one had a varigated pink/purple/orange and the rest have different shades of red.

I also decided after quilting the background that I should leave the rays be..so they will pop out....Simple is best!

In the sashing I thought about several different designs and then decided wavy lines to kind of look like a "plaid" would add enough interest wihout taking away from the sun rays..because the Sun rays is really what needs to "shine" in this quilt.

Of course I did this all on my INNOVA freehand..no computer or pantographs....all by myself!

Thank you for looking!

Love the thought and effort you put in with each of your clients pieces. You never impose your own style or taste, which I think is hard to do. You've highlighted this quilt beautifully - it is a stunning design and the colours are fantastic. Great collaboration.

What kind of batting does this quilt have?
