This was a challenge of the guild, titled "Peace Like a River". There could be no embellishments that could not go through a needle.
I had been wanting to try a more challenging paper pieced quilt. This had 28 sections with a total of 229 pieces. I increased the pattern by 50%. I knew the smaller size would drive me crazy. It is based on a design by Liz Swartz & Stephen Seifert titled "Changing Winds", from "Quilts with Style" magazine issue # 42. I played around with the pre programmed embroidery stiches on my machine for the quilting. I won second place in the guild challenge and a first place in miniature category at the county fair. I used to live in Albuquerque and the Sandia Mountains in some light are red and a crane is a symbol of peace in many cultures. This will be my avatar for now. 19" x 15" Close up of the quilting |
