This was made for my father in law for his 84th birthday.(2008)
In the center of stars is a large black button from an official Marine Corp uniform. Dad only got to enjoy it for a short while. He passed away from cancer in June 2009. |
Beautful quilt

I am so sorry for your loss, he looked so pleased sitting in front of his quilt. My father did not live to see the one I was making for him, it took me several years to finally finish it and give it to my Mother.

How wonderful that your dad was able to see it and enjoy it...I started one for my son that I was going to finish when he came back from Iraq...the center medallion is an eagle..I was going to add his awards around it along with stars...it is now sitting in a drawer...I don't have the heart to finish it since he was killed in Iraq....your dad was so blessed that you were able to give him such a wonderful gift of pride and recognition...blessings

Hello Ladyt, I just saw the beautiful S.F. Quilt you made and I am making one for my husband. I bought a 10 inch marine corp patch (emblem) which is embroided and looks similar to the one you used. It has a shiny substance on the back and is fairly thick. I am wondering if I should wash it first, or just sew it onto some material. It is pretty stiff, did you have a similar center piece for your quilt? I hope you see this. Thanks for sharing this beautiful quilt.

Great quilt!! Thank you for sharing....
|
So happy to hear he got to see it. It is beautiful!
|
Thank you.
The center piece I used was actually a pillow panel I found on ebay. (REALLY reasonably priced!) Not sure what the shiny substance might be unless it already has some type of fusible on it. I would probably just sew it onto the fabric I was going to use. I be afraid to wash it; my luck it would come out all wonky.
