I made my mom and sister each a Snap Happy bag then they asked me to make more. This is just a few of them. I think I've now made 26 of them. This is the pattern that uses the tape measure at the top. Great for Christmas presents. This pattern is by Stitchin' Sisters. Fun to make

Do you have a source for the metal piece other than old tape measures?

Up North 10-21-2011 05:36 PM

You can get tape measures at Dollar Tree and they would work great.

I stole my husbands tape measurer  I actually had to steal 2. I replaced them with a smaller hoping he won't notice  However, I've heard of people using the old metal blinds too.

sawsan 10-22-2011 01:29 AM

I love your bags, how big r they and u put no zipper right?
Nice gifts

alleyoop1 10-22-2011 03:26 AM

I made one but I boxed the bottom and put regular straps on the top. It holds more and gets many compliments. And the 'snap' works just fine - if I don't overload the bag, that is!

mimiknoxtaylor 10-22-2011 03:27 AM

I love making these. You can add trims to the outside too.
Found the best place to get the tape measures is at the dollar store. I also use a double layer of the measuring tape, put together round the ends a little, then use electrical tape wrapped around the ends.

Julie in NM 10-22-2011 03:54 AM

Love snap bags! Made them in seveal sizes! and yes...Dollar store has great tape measures. DH wanted mine but not after I trimmed off 9".Just remember to tape the end so it won't retract into itself!

catladyquilts 10-22-2011 03:59 AM

they tend to be addictive
