14 yr olds new zebra quilt

4 Attachment(s)
I have been away far to long. My DGD, turned 14 in March and she wanted to change her room to Zebra design. Her Mom and Dad helped her make a new headboard and she covered her desk chair with zebra fur. So I brought her a number of fabrics to make a jelly roll quilt. She did all the work on it, I just quilted it in the end. So please take a look at her new room and darling quilt. We also did some decopage (sp) on her dresser and painted it. We made pillows while I was there visiting. She made the brown pillows last year. She has won many awards for quilting, horse shows, track and now her artwork. Great kid to be around. Her cousin is getting married in Aug. and she was my daughters flower girl so we also made a quilt for her that I have to quilt now. We kept very busy!!!!! I also had baseball games to go see for her brother. Tee Hee!!! He made 3 pillow cases too. I got a few pillows for his bed too.

nicely done

You 2 have wow'd it out. My DGD is 6 and wants to do her walls in Zebra strips. Not happening. They live in a Managers house on the Thorough Bred horse farm, where our son-in -law is a division manager. So they can't.
Your DGD and you have made an awesome room! She sounds like a very rounded and creative young lady!

Love the zebra quilt, and it is great to start kids early on piecing and quilting. You both did a great job, and I'll bet it was fun working on it together, too.

Great room ... the dresser drawers are perfect!

One thing missing ... Grandma could surprise her with ...... a zebra rug.
(perhaps layers chenilled? or quilted?)

Looks like she is on her way to being a quilter. Great teen room.

quiltstringz 04-22-2013 08:36 AM

Both of you did a wonderful job. The quilts and pillows are beautiful.

WOW!! You have a really talented quilter and artist. Lucky lady and lucky girl to have a grandma like you. One question.......In pic #2 there is a large pillow trimmed in brown. Could we see more and name of pattern? Thanks.

Perfect quilt for a teen. My G.G.daughter is going thru that phase also. Zebra everything!

cathyvv 04-22-2013 07:44 PM

That sure is zebra! Glad your DGD is getting 'into' quilting. You will both have memories of this for the rest of your lives. You must be very proud of her!

Very nice room and quilt.

Spectacular! If she is that talented (even with help from Grandma) at 14 she is going to be amazing when she's all grown up! And I love your DGS pillowcases too!

coachmatthewsvhs 04-23-2013 02:12 AM

Awesome.... lucky kids and Grandma

gabeway 04-23-2013 04:35 AM

Sounds like lots of fun! Plus you all did an amazing job!

solstice3 04-23-2013 04:55 AM

I really like her take on the jelly roll quilt. It has something that a lot of the others don't

grammysharon 04-23-2013 09:15 AM

I love both quilts and all the pillows!!! You are one great grammy!!!!!!

RedGarnet222 04-23-2013 09:20 AM

She did a great job on her quilt. How fun her room is now. I bet she loves hanging out in there. Where's the study desk?

QUILTNMO 04-23-2013 02:32 PM

very nice job!!!!

RainydayQuilter 04-23-2013 03:23 PM

The zebra room is cute, but the rock chalk jayhawk room, I really like his decorating theme. Too bad we couldn't see more of his quilt.

lfstamper 04-23-2013 03:27 PM

Way cool...what a wonderful memory for you all!

It is a Willow Bend pattern. Here is the picture of the two brown pillows she made last year.

Very nice room and how fun is that to work with your DGD.

quiltingcandy 04-23-2013 11:33 PM

Great job on the zebra items - but the Jayhawk pillows and quilts really take the cake. (I just can't get enough of that cute little bird!)

twinkie 04-24-2013 02:46 AM

Those are so cute

Scakes 04-24-2013 03:05 AM

Very nice! Sounds like ya'll had a great time with all the projects.

My dgd has a zebra stripe room. Her walls are painted with a zebra stripe. It's busy but looks good. I like the dresser drawers you did.

2manyhobbies 04-24-2013 03:38 AM

My kinda gal. Love those stripes.

MothrNatr 04-24-2013 03:46 AM

Nice job - like the pop of color in the quilt and the pillow with her name on it. Like that the smurf peeking out from under the bed matches the blue in the quilt :)

You really can do this!!!! Take fabric and dip it in liquid starch and put it on the wall like wallpaper! All it takes to get it off is spritzing it with some water. We did this to my dd's first apartment and it was adorable :)

dragonflylady 04-24-2013 04:32 AM

does she like zebra pattern =-) lol, VERY NICE

Daisy Dew 04-24-2013 04:37 AM
