It all started with some leftover charms

A few years back I got carried away purchasing charms on eBay. Most of them have been worked into quilts but there was a pile of castoffs that got passed over through the various sortings and pairings. Using the rule of small pieces for ugly fabric I paired them with black and made them into 4-patches. With no particular pattern in mind, there they sat until I came across Bonnie Hunter's Patches and Pinwheels pattern. I added HST and additional 4-patches from my scraps and this is what I came up with. Just finished the top yesterday. It isn't pressed and doesn't have borders but I wanted to share. I'm calling it gemstones.
And I see the picture didn't post. Hang on while I see what I can do. Here we go. |
I really need to follow your example and use some of my growing scrap pile. I love what you have done here.

Love your quilt! I've made this one several times myself. Great for scraps!

Excellent use of scraps! I think all the colors and print patterns in scrappy quilts make them so interesting and lively! You should be proud of this scrappy!

This is gorgeous! I love the way the pinwheels make a secondary pattern for the charm squares. What a great use of scraps!

beautiful. Nowadays, I am working on taming my small pile of what I call my ugly fabric for which I find no place in other projects. Your quilt is an incentive for me to keep going. Thanks for sharing. You did a real good job!

That's a wonderful quilt. A good tip there about using the black. I don't often use black now I think about it. A must do for 2013. Thank you.

I love what you have done. The black really pulls everything together and makes things pop. I love scrappy quilts. I have been cutting 2 inch squares of my small scraps and look forward to turning them into a quilt. Thanks for the inspiration.
