A year or 2 ago, someone posted a picture of an antique quilt with a central medallion that resembled this. I added the hearts. I have asked around and checked references, but not found the block's name. I am calling it Pharoh's Phan, because the subunits bear a strong resemblance to ancient Egyptian images of fans and of papyrus flowers. I know that Egyptian influences hit the western world of art and decoration in the early 19th and again in the early 20th centuries.
The original image was all of small floral prints on bleached muslin.

I just loved this pattern when I first saw it. Obviously you did too. The hearts are my own addition. Thank you for your comments.
