Our guild has an annual challenge and this year we were each give an apple core template to use any way we want, except that we have to use it as is.... we can't change the size.

I took the easy way out because I don't have the patience to sew a bunch of curves. I used the whole template for the apple, then used the inside curve to make the leaves and the stem.

Now, do you think it need a border?

Sharon - NC 01-25-2010 08:16 AM

That is really pretty! Your seams line up so perfectly, and the apples are adorable. I'm new and no expert, but I would put a border around it. I think solid red or solid green would look good.

grammy Dwynn 01-25-2010 08:28 AM

I'm with Sharon-NC needs boarders. A narrow green (not any larger than 1"), followed by the red polka dot.

MaryStoaks 01-25-2010 08:43 AM

Beautiful, I love the crisp look of the cores. Borders would be nice.

sewnsewer2 01-25-2010 09:01 AM

I think this looks great!! It would be a cute table topper.

 Yeah, that!

Harmony 01-25-2010 09:11 AM

Hey, it's curves--there IS no easy way! Your fabrics are perfect! This is very cute!

lisalovesquilting 01-25-2010 09:15 AM

I think narrow white, wide red. Also bind with same red. Really cute BTW

Yeap my thoughts too. It is really cute. You did an awesome job.

Tippy 01-25-2010 09:29 AM

and I'd quilt the border with apple slices.

Mamaskeeto 01-25-2010 09:33 AM

Looks great! I always have a hard time when we do challlenges in our guild.

dakotamaid 01-25-2010 09:36 AM

Excellent piecing!! Yes, needs some type of border.

Ms Grace 01-25-2010 09:39 AM

That's very pretty.
How do you get your seams so perfect?

aberi 01-25-2010 09:41 AM

oh this is so cute!!! I love it!!

charmpacksplus 01-25-2010 09:52 AM

Okay then..... borders it will be, but I'll have to use something in my stash because I am not buying another piece of fabric this month. It may be yellow, black, or pink.... no not pink. LOL

Seams perfect? Don't look to close. Some of them are right on and some are not. I do like things perfect, but I'm not there yet when it comes to seams. I have learned a few tricks to get me closer. I pressed all seams in the nine patches to the dark fabric so they were opposing when I sewed the rows together. I pinned right past the seam by a couple of threads in the direction I would be sewing, which locks the seams together.

jewelps 01-25-2010 11:13 AM

i would go with the same color as the apple or the same color as the green

ranger 01-25-2010 11:21 AM

I think you did a good job...and I really like the fabric you used for the apples.

I agree, it does need borders.

paintedquilt 01-25-2010 12:01 PM

Your quilt is really nice. I think a narrow 1/2" dark green together with a 2 1/2" red border would be effective :-P

What color are you wanting to bring out of the quilt? I always audition colors first before I actually make a decision. Same goes for how big I want the border/s.
I learned long ago after I bought all the fabric for the quilt including the borders that after I got the top done I didn't like the borders. So now I do the top and then I choose the border after the top is complete.

Debbie1 01-25-2010 02:36 PM

I love it, great job!

Okay, here it is with borders! Thanks for all the suggestions. I had just enough of the green left over to do a 1-inch border. I did the outside red border three inches - the same size as the blocks.

Mamagus 01-25-2010 05:07 PM

Gotta love that green in that BORDER. And then double love the wider red BORDER. There's already enough white in it so you were right to avoid the white BORDER.

Sorry pet peeve about "boarder" LOL

Jim's Gem 01-25-2010 05:13 PM

Looks cute!

dglvr 01-25-2010 05:43 PM

You did great. I love it.

jewelps 01-25-2010 06:08 PM

that looks good   :-) :-)

mountain-moma 01-25-2010 06:14 PM

I would do a maybe 1 inch green border and then maybe red polka dots as my border just my 2cents by the way it's beautiful i love anything with apples in it i have my kitchen and dinning room done in apples(:)

mountain-moma 01-25-2010 06:17 PM

OH MY i love it with those borders WOW BEAUTIFUL(:)

sewjoyce 01-25-2010 06:48 PM

Wow--the border treatment you chose really sets it off!! :D

littlehud 01-25-2010 07:25 PM

I think it needs borders. I like the idea of a narrow white with a wider red. Picks up the colors of the quilt.

tuesy 01-25-2010 07:56 PM

Very pretty.. I would add a border as some have suggested, just not a very large one...

Honey 01-25-2010 09:43 PM

I love it, but then I am partial to anything red. You did a great job!

k3n 01-26-2010 12:01 AM

Beautiful job - the borders look great! :-D

tlrnhi 01-26-2010 03:24 AM

I think you did a magnificent job!

jabs317 01-26-2010 04:41 AM

Very Pretty

Bevanger 01-26-2010 08:54 AM

i love it

Jingle 01-26-2010 09:13 AM

You did a really good job!!! I think almost all quilts need borders, just seems to make them look finished.

nativetexan 01-26-2010 09:13 AM

oh how ingenious! or is that engenious? spelling isn't my thing. anyway, cute!!!!

lass 01-26-2010 11:59 AM

I agree with grammy - solid green and then a red.

lass 01-26-2010 11:59 AM
