Hello you lot!

Thought you might like to see pics of my latest baby quilt. This is quilt number three for me, I am slowly building up my portfolio!

This one is for baby Lewis on his first birthday on the 25th Nov. He is the baby of Greg and Rachel, friends that my brother and I have known for a long time.

I chose bright fun fabrics because Lewis is such a cheerful, happy little lad, and so cheeky too. I got all the fabrics from eBay, except the binding and backing. I love eBay! It was all very cheap.

I’m pleased with it, a few hiccups along the way but not that you’d notice I hope. It’s the first time I’ve tried anything other than straight line quilting. I used a stencil for the border, I’m please with how it came out. I think I am almost ready to have a go at free motion quilting, just need to buy a foot and put together some practice pieces.

I used an indelible laundry marker pen for the label (set it with a dry iron), anyone else tried using laundry pens for labels? It says it’s indelible and is designed to be washed so I’m hoping it will last. I’m going to wash the quilt on Sunday, so have not sewn the label to it yet, but will pin it in with safety pins to see how the ink holds up. If it looks like it fades I will go buy a pigma pen and do a new label.

Anyway, hope you like it! I think the cats do!

Great job!!!! So cute!!!! Kitties might not let you give it to Lewis!!!

Quilt4u 11-14-2008 01:24 PM

That is so cute. But I don't think it is Lewis's quilt any more. looks like some one else clamed it. You just have to mak them one now; or them may be upset.

shellyp 11-14-2008 01:40 PM

Kitties have gave it the stamp of approval! It looks great. I'm sure Lewis will love it. :-)

:D Great job, I love the way the little Pooh bears go all around. Your quilting is getting better as well. :) Now don't go taking that wrong. I mean you've branched out and did a bit more than stitch in the ditch and it looks great.

The one with the kitty under the quilt is to funny! Was that one or both of them?

Nothing to take wrong Elizabeth, thanks for such a nice compliment! I enjoyed branching out, my confidence is growing for sure.

It was just Satchmo (the black cat) underneath! They love burrowing, anything laid out on the floor and they dig right under it!

Elizabeth A. 11-14-2008 01:52 PM

:D I forgot to mention nice job on the little applique duck on the label. :D

Thanks Jims Gem! Nothing under it, just two curious naught cats that love burrowing! You should see them when I change the bedding, they are all right in it!

I know! They love quilting, and were watching every step.

PrettyKitty 11-14-2008 01:56 PM

I know Quilt4u, they are always so supportive of my projects, climbing and touching and playing with fabrics and thread and watching it all the way. I have made them a quilted window seat cushion, which they love, so I don't feel too bad.

 Thanks Elizabeth, but I have to admit that it is a bought one...just an iron on one I bought from a craft shop. I have not even considered the world of applique yet.

kathyd 11-14-2008 02:00 PM

I like the colorfulness of it and it appears the "inspectors" also like it. Great job. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Chele! The quilting is still very basic but I am making a point of slowly working up to bigger and better things!

CissyQuilts 11-14-2008 02:01 PM

Thanks Cissy! I haven't seen Lewis for a while but judging by the recent photos his parents have sent me, he's a BIG fella! I'm sure this will be more of a play mat than a quilt. He's not little any more!

sandpat 11-14-2008 02:49 PM

Its "cat approved"..what else do you need??? That is very cute and I love the Pooh fabric. (I think I bought some of that and have it somewhere around here.) Lewis will love that! Great job on the quilting too!

nancee 11-14-2008 03:35 PM

sewsewquilter 11-14-2008 03:40 PM

Your quilt turn out great! Looks like the cats are having great fun with it. They may want to keep it and not give it to Lewis.

gcathie 11-14-2008 06:19 PM

Mary, that quilt is just adorable. And your quilting is fabulous!!! I love the design that you did on it--your confidence is showing!!

Those two cats of yours just crack me up--what great entertainment and companionship they are for you.

Mary, hurry and get your darning foot, I am sure you will be a wizz at free motion, alot of it is down to confidence and you have got heaps!!

This is a gorgeous little quilt that I am sure will be treasured for a very long time, your cats are so inquisitive they crease me up

Joan 11-15-2008 08:51 AM

Yes, the cats have certainly given it the "mark of approval". It looks like the real challenge will be convincing them that it isn't "their" quilt. It is beautiful, love the Pooh fabric!!!!

quiltingday 11-15-2008 09:16 AM

How colorful and cheerful. Beautiful job. I know baby Lewis will love It!

PrettyKitty 11-15-2008 11:53 AM

THANKS EVERYONE! Such nice comments really helps my confidence. The quilting is not perfect, but I am please with it as a first try at anything other than straight lines.

And the cats say hi to everyone. Satchmo is right here next to my laptop screen, transfixed by the letters appearing as I type, and waiting for the mouse pointer to move again so he can try and bite it. There is kitty slobber on the screen and everything. Kitchen is on the sofa watching tv and hogging the blanket. He's very tired after a hard afternoon snoozing!

Moonpi 11-15-2008 12:01 PM

Love the quilt and your cats enjoying themselves with it.

CindyBee 11-15-2008 02:01 PM

I love it! You did a great job on the quilting also. BTW, your kitties are adorable. I like the picture of the black one under the quilt with his tail sticking out. So catty, LOL.
