Barn Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
My husband and I painted this barn quilt for my Mother's barn here in Wisconsin. We also painted another one exactly the same for my garage. I now have 3 barn quilts and I change them occasionally.

pastimesquiltdesign 06-13-2012 05:33 AM

Fantastic! I don't have a barn but I do have big garage out back, maybe I should put a barn quilt on it. That sounds really fun. How big did you make them? Peggy

mhansen6 06-13-2012 05:37 AM

That is so cool. I have a barn quilt on order. I can't wait for it to get here.

Homespun 06-13-2012 05:49 AM

You did a great job with the painting!

Diane007 06-13-2012 09:13 AM

QuiltnNan 06-13-2012 09:15 AM

Great barn quilt! I love them but thought I don't have a place to put one. But.... I just put a small shed on my deck. I could do a 1.5x1.5 ft one... hmmmmm, wheels turning

Woman 06-13-2012 09:17 AM

Beautiful, did you have a pattern or did you make you own?

Sew N Tune 06-13-2012 11:37 AM

I love your star, and you did an outstanding job on painting it. Your points are perfect.

jojosnana 06-13-2012 11:41 AM

What a great barn quilt. That would be perfect for memorial day. Fourth of July and labor day.

Sewfine 06-13-2012 11:45 AM

That is beautiful. I want one for my patio.

Pennyquilter88 06-13-2012 11:53 AM

So, they are like "hex signs" that people put on barns? Very stunning!

cowgirlquilter 06-13-2012 12:20 PM

This is so awesome....Ilove barn quilts. Just purchased Eleanor Burns "Barn quilts" book, and I love love love it!

I am making the "Barn Quilts on American Barns" quilt. I have all the blocks done and assembled. I am now in the process of putting all the borders on. I am going to add borders until it is a queen size quilt. The barn quilt I painted, is 4 feet X 4 feet the design is taken from Eleanors barn quilts book. It was tricky to get the proper angles and to tape it all of to paint it, but I love it and it was worth the work!!! Thanks everyone for your nice comments.

I love it!!

We just bought a 4 ft X 4 ft piece of plywood. A better grade of plywood is helpful. I just divided up the board as though I was drawing a 9 patch. Then just worked each section out, drawing lines . We then taped off all the parts we wanted White. Painted them, a couple of times. Then proceeded to tape off and paint the next color. As you can tell this is a little tedious but also a lot of fun. You just paint a little each day. We used exterior paint from Menards. I hope you all will try it. Lots of fun!!!

We got a 4 ft by 4 ft good quality piece of plywood from Menards. We did not screw it directly to the wall, we used metal hangers and have large screws to slip the hangers onto. Since I have painted 2 other designs (3 altogether) then I can change out my design occasionally. Keeps my neighbors guessing!!!

Oh I hope you post your "Barn Quilt Quilt". That sounds fun to make. Thanks for your 'Barn Quilt' info! It sounds like so much fun to do. I'm thinking I need this Elenor Burns book.

sewmorethings 06-14-2012 05:16 AM

Very pretty and patriotic, would be great for July

Quilt-Writer 06-14-2012 06:49 AM

This is a beautiful quilt barn block. My husband and I follow the trails whenever possible. We have several hundred "finds" in our photo collection. My website has many pics.
My next novel is about a quilt barn painter. I'm currently doing the research and rough draft. Next week I'm speaking at a Ntl. Educators convention about the quilt barns. I think I have 175 pics for the presentation with ideas about using quilting for teaching.
I hope to figure out a way to put my Power Point on my website so people can enjoy the many lovely patterns we've found.

nunnyJo 06-14-2012 07:02 AM

love it, maybe I'll do a garage quilt, do ya think my hubby would notice?

jcrow 06-14-2012 07:18 AM

I have a huge detached garage that I could put a barn quilt on the front of. I need to look into it!

moreland 06-14-2012 01:26 PM

Rubesgirl 06-14-2012 07:43 PM

I love your barn quilt. Great job! Are there any tutes on making them or did you wing it?

thebossbab 06-14-2012 07:50 PM

Pretty! Will look great displayed.

lollygagging 06-14-2012 08:40 PM

Great paint job. Love the pattern you selected. You'll have to share your other ones with us. Thanks for sharing.

JoyjoyMarie 06-14-2012 10:41 PM

Thanks for sharing your beautiful piece. I've got it on my bucket list to make a "shed quilt" since I don't have a barn. But that's after a lot of UFOs and a long list of "to dos"

greaterexp 06-15-2012 05:13 AM
