Well--after HOURS of prep work (I am not kidding)--here's the results so far.....
I had to figure out the size the photos should be--decide on photos that would work (hours) pick colors--and spend hours cutting pieces. And I haven't even touched the tree squares!! I didn't think through barn colors as well as I wished--My stallion's barn will be 3rd down and will face the opposite direction. But his barn has fabrics from two other barns that I'd like to not be by his, but there's no way that will work. That's okay. Sigh--I can't think of everything. I'll post another pic of the quilt. Then I'll keep adding photos here as I go... |
OOOO great idea.. can't wait to see the whole quilt completed.. get busy!!!
|
Very cute!
|
I think it is going to be great.. The pics of your horses in the barn door really adds a special touch.. In fact I love the barn quilt but I do not know if I am brave enough to attempt it..
|
Great job on the horse pictures! That is going to be one cute quilt! It will be fun seeing it being built.
|
This is fabulous, and, I think, better than those quilting shows!
I love it, and like the others, hope that you have plenty of uninterrupted time so you can get it to the binding stage and beyond! 8) |
Great choice of barn fabrics! And of course the horses are irrisistable. But please don't get stressed out over the whole project. Slow down a little & have fun with it!! It is going to be gorgeous.

Wow--out internet was down for 7 hours!! Between that, no hot water, and keeping the wood furnace full, I feel like I'm Laura from Little House on the Prairie. :D At least my sewing machine worked!!
Here's how far I got: |

I didn't want to leave anyone out.

Awesome job! This is going to be a priceless quilt. I am amazed at all the talent everyone has on here. I am on my second quilt but I am still doing the basic 9 patch. I fear trying the more complicated stuff, even though I am dying to try them.
|
Very Cute! Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt. I don't blame you for not wanting to leave anyone out, their all so adorable.
|
Looking good so far. Can't wait to see it as it progresses.

|
Its really going together fast! I really like it and can't wait to see more :!:

BDor--it's not out of a box--it's from a book!! You can do it!! :D (picture smile nodding)
Well--I didn't do any today. We took the tree down and I'm trying to finish a good book before the corrections start! I'll post more when I add some!! Thanks for all the warm fuzzies. :D |

I'm staying up waaaay too late, but I did grade the book reports before starting. I still have to go out to the big real barn for final tuck-in... yawn. However, the silo tops and sky/grass has been added. :D I decided to attempt a sort of light to dark thing--with the strip of grass over the bottom three barns going dark to lighter. With all the little ones added in, it probably won't make much difference, but I'll know what I was thinking.
|
HOMEY, COMFY, CUDDLY, WARM, FUZZY are just a few of the thoughts those blocks evoke. Nice job - I want to sleep in that barn with those horses!!
|
Love it!
|
Barnbum.... I really like them... Yours is going to be gorgous...It has always been one of my favorite looking quilts.. I have never been brave enough to try it..
|
I'm trying really hard not to pout but, I'd really love to have that!
|
Just adorable!! One of the neatest ideas I've seen so far!! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see it all finished!! Keep giving us pics of your progress though...its so fun to see it grow into a finished project!!
|
This is like a living book, as we watch the artist build the story. Ou Ou OU Ouing and awing as each chapter unfolds. Enjoying every chapter, Knowing that the final chapter, will create a masterpiece of work. Great job, beautiful work. A wonderful treasure. A must for the bestseller list.
|
Aww--you gals just started my morning off right. :D I think I'm working on it as much for you as me now!
The weekend is coming! Next are the trees. |
This is so cool :!: I love being ale to watch your progress :-) I can't wait to see your next step. You are doing a great job.
|
That is just gorgeous! What a great use of plaids and architectural prints! I really, really like it!
Wendy |
Barnbum, Your work is fabulous!!! Your pics make me want to move out of town so I can have a mini horse. :P :P
|
If I use light greens for the grass and dark greens for trees--is it too much green?? I do have some green/blue with small white flowers for some--but what other colors could I put in there? It's too close to try walkways...
I'm at school--my students are finishing a test... |
Barnbum, I love your idea! That is going to be a gorgeous quilt! The pictures of the horses have turned out very nicely! I don't think it would be too much green. you could possible use different shades of light and dark to give it more of a contrast. I think with the barn colors, it will look perfect! I can't wait to see it!
|
hey barnbum, what a wonderful quilt. such a labor of love.
BTW how is your mare that was sick a few days ago. hope she is "back on full feed" now. that is an expression my dad used to say. |
nanabirdmo--Gypsy is just fine. It took a day of watching--but I think she must have gotten a thorn in her mouth from the hay. I only think that because I had some in my gloves. So now all hay is checked with bare hands. The vet thought she was choking, but she didn't show the right symptoms... I kept her on Banamine and syringed warm water with Karos syrup in her to keep her from colicking...and checked her every 45 minutes all day. She's 100%, but I have more gray hairs. Thanks for asking!!
live2teach--I have very dark greens for the trees--and you can see the grass shades... I'm glad you feel it'll be fine. I can see why the original mixed tans, blues and greens for the background!! I am going to limit greens in the log cabin border. Lots of blue there--since I have so much left from not using much sky. PS--The students are having DARE right now...I'm headed back to grading. It's nice to take a break and visit during the day!! :D |
Those are just great! I love them! That quilt will be a heirloom for sure! Keep us posted please so we can see your finished results.
|
I am also waiting to see the next step  I love watching them made like this.. The internet is so cool
I am glad Gypsy is fine... I knew you were going out to the barn every 45 minutes or so :( However I was too scared to ask.. Was not sure if the outcome was positive or not.. I fought a battle last week for my favorite milk goat and I did not win... |
Barnbum, I'm glad Gypsy is okay. :D :D
Diamonds, I'm so sorry to hear about your milk goat. It's very hard to lose a furry friend. My granddog is going downhill very fast, and the vet thinks he has lymphoma. Very sad - he's only 6 yrs old. |
Diamond
What kind of goats do you have? I came real close last summer to buying a pygmy goat. I hear the females make great house pets, and can be house trained. I was told the billies where more stubborn. She was so cute and little. But I did'nt feel I was knowledgeable enough to get one. But it's still in my thoughts. And I don't feel I would be fair to her, with out a companion, like another pygmy. |
diamonds we have about 35 goats and 2 milk goats one is a apalition i know i didnt spell that wright she does not have ears the are 2 little pointy things and we have another milk goat it hurts me to lose one i feel for you they are just like your children thanks dorothy from tenn
|
Karla your barns are awesome!!!
|
Rebecca pygmy goats are cute but Nubians are just bigger and just as friendly.. Also great for milking... It is true goats can be house trained...
Thanks all for the kind words about Lipse... She was a Nubian  Gentle, loving and just so darned cute... She acted more like a dog than a goat  Thanks for giving me a chance to tell you about her... Now I will set back, be quiet and wait on the rest of the quilt  |
