i made this a couple of yrs ago for my 15 yr old grandson who was going thru a "goth" phase. he insisted on a black quilt, not easy for me. so i made an executive decision  and went with my gut. he loved it then and loves it now. it is sort of twisted and off kilter. sort of like me
i ran across some pics in a folder on my computer so will post a few in the next day or so. |
looks very good to me...........The Amish do a lot of black....... I like black in quilts...great :D
|
I think it is beautiful... One of my kids went through a goth period too  I was so glad when it ended... Now even mentioning it embarrasses her

What a beautiful use of batiks and black!
Aren't kids these days just weird? My daughter spent the night with a friend when we were going to Disneyland the next day. She snuck into the van while we were loading up and didn't think I would look at her for a while. The Disney trip was a company paid event, and guess what she had done the night before? Pierced her face just below her bottom lip!!! (she was 13 at the time.) Being into tough love, I told her if she wanted to go on any rides, or eat that day, she'd be taking that thing out of her face before we got there. She did! LOL Thank God she is a good, loving young woman now instead of the hell-raising teenager! |
Awesome Quilt, no wonder he loved it! I love batiks and they go so well with the black. I am working on a black quilt for my son, atleast we both get to use "some" colors, too

What a gorgeous quilt! I adore batiks! I love the black too. It's such a striking quilt. Beautiful work, too!
My 15-year-old son makes "granny" comments when I'm quilting, but recently he asked when I was going to make him a quilt! Being the goofy family we are, I bought a bunch of Barney, Power Rangers, and Pokemon fabric for his quilt. Oh yeah, and a "My Little Pony" fat quarter. Family joke! I buy him a My Little Pony every year as a gag for his stocking! I'll hide that purple pony fabric in there somewhere. Should be an interesting quilt! |
That is a gorgeous quilt! I love batiks and the color black in quilts. The black is striking in the quilt. I love this quilt! Great job!

I am a lover of batiks. Impressive quilt. Great job.   Thanks for sharing.

quiltmaker101,
oh my, aren't kids a stitch :!: i guess every generation thinks they invented rebellion. i'm sure glad none of us went thru phases that embarrassed our folks 8) LOL |
Great quilt!! And lovely story.
I told my kids that what was wrong with their generation was that my generation had too good of drugs (that shut them up real quick -- trying to figure out if I was one of the ones doing the drugs -- and I'll never tell) :D Lee |
quiltinlee,
LOL i won't tell if you don't  :!:  :!: |
beautiful quilt good job I'm sure your grandson will treasure it for many years to come.
|
That's a very nice quilt. he won't outgrow it!
|
Striking is a good word. Probably much better than pretty. I don't think that word would settle too well on a young man's posession.
|
Great quilt. The black makes it pop.
Boys or Grandsons love quilts too. I made my two oldest grandson a quilt each out of just cotton knit like tee shirt material ( a friend that worked in a shirt factory got lots of the fabric when they made tee shirts) I just cut 6 " squares of 2 different fabrics and just made rows and backed it with the same fabric and stiched in the ditch. They loved them! They are now 24 and 22 and still have those quilts. The more they are washed the softer they get. |
