Here are some illustrative pictures that show the amount of excess dye that is in some batiks. I always prewash everything to be sure I won't have any surprises.
Most of the batiks I have purchased did not bleed as much as these two did, but you never know unless you dip them in hot water. |
Thank you for the great pictures!!! This is so true with them and other hand dyes :D:D:D

 good to know!
|
I agree with prewashing ALL of my fabrics before I sew with them. You just never know what may be lurking within .....
|
YIKES!!!!! I never realized!! Thanks for the pics!

I always wash mine with a dye grabber. They'll turn it from white to dark in a heartbeat. Tiedyes are the same way usually and hand dyes are hemophiliacs. I also like to use a handful (or two) of table salt and some white vinegar. It will usually set the dye better than it was.

I wash all fabrics, too....but batiks are usually the only ones that turn the color catchers colors!
|
WOW That is amazing. I usually prewash 1" strip and test for
bleeding. |
thanks for sharing

I have continued to soak and wash these two particular batiks. They are continuing to release dye, so I am concerned about using them. I bought them on-line so I have contacted the website about returning them.
