Beginner first quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I started quilt (Craftsy BOM) in March, finally got it finished just in time to give to my dgd for their first Christmas with their two newly adopted children. I am proud of the finished quilt even tho I have a number of mistakes in it. I certainly hope I have learned from some of them.

What mistakes, us quilters are so hard on ourselves. It's gorgeous.

Challys 11-18-2012 07:42 AM

Very hard to believe this is a first quilt--absolutely gorgeous!

QUILTNMO 11-18-2012 07:57 AM

grammy Dwynn 11-18-2012 08:27 AM

If one cannot see a 'mistake' while riding on a galloping horse, then there is NO mistake!!! :)
Yes we are always to hard on ourselves!

Great job!

babeyruth 11-18-2012 08:29 AM

Just Awesome!

Belfrybat 11-18-2012 08:30 AM

Very, very nice. Did you quilt it yourself as well? If so, what method did you use? I've pieced a bunch of tops but have yet to actually quilt one. My bad!

What an ambitious quilt for a first-timer! It looks wonderful! Your fabric choices are great. I especially like the the last block in the third row down. Is that circle inset or applique? Whichever it is, it's terrific!

DebbE 11-18-2012 09:19 AM

What a gorgeous quilt -- they will absolutely love it, especially as its a quilt of love. Great job!!

I don't see mistakes, I just see beauty. Congrats on the quilt. I am seeing so many techniques even curved piecing. The next will be easier and the next even easier.

Cookie46 11-18-2012 11:07 AM

Wonderful quilt. Beautiful work.

Grama Betty 11-18-2012 11:34 AM

Since it was my first quilt, I went the easy way and did stitch in the ditch.

Grama Betty 11-18-2012 11:49 AM

It actually is the center of the Greek Cross block, but I thought it was so plain that I did an embroidery
design in the center, it is an outline type design of Christmas Bells with ribbons...my picture does't show it to well. Any of the applique I did by machine, but did do the hidden stich on the back for the binding.

I just did a stitch in the ditch for the quilting, didn't want to get too confident...need to become more sure of myself with future quilts. I do have to say, the Craftsy BOM was great, the directions were really easy to follow. This is the first one completed, still have another one that needs assembled for another
dgd. Hope to have it done by Christmas...same as this one.

TexasSunshine 11-18-2012 01:47 PM

That is great. I am behind several months on mine and I'm using Christmas fabric so I will have to finish it next year when I have more time.
