I am making this for my bosses retirement.
It is the Sawtooth Square from quilterscache.com
I have never made a two color quilt before. It went together nicely and pretty quickly. It is square and hard to get back far enough in my room to show it all. Hope you can get an idea.

So my question---
Do I use the blue print to do the binding? I don't think I want white. And I don't think it would look right to use the backing and add another fabric in. Would it?

I still have to go shopping for the backing. I am thinking a blue on blue marble or tiedye type that doesn't have a real pattern.
Any suggestions?

your quilt is very pretty. If it were me I would probably use the same blue in the top for my binding. But i'm sure our fellow quilters with more experience will be able to steer you in the right direction.

BlueChicken 04-05-2009 12:23 PM

I would use the blue print to bind it.

What a gorgeous quilt, well done!

Ducky 04-05-2009 12:24 PM

Boy, that is really pretty! Are you going to put any border(s) on it? I think that would sort of determine what your binding should be.

mgshaw 04-05-2009 12:25 PM

Beautiful!!!! I would use the blue for binding!!!!

The pattern doesn't have a border but I thought about adding one.
It is already 72x72. I was thinking a TV throw size would be nice.

I like my boss and I don't want to be cheap,
but I'm thinking it is large enough as is.

Marcia 04-05-2009 12:48 PM

What a beauty you have made for your boss. I think the size is perfect for a throw and I would not add any borders to it. I think the blue would be perfect for the binding.

tlrnhi 04-05-2009 12:50 PM

It's very pretty!
I'd use the blue fabric you have for the binding.
Not sure about adding a border to it. If you did, would you use the blue or white? I wouldn't incorporate another blue in there, the blue you have is beautiful!

Chele 04-05-2009 01:00 PM

That's so pretty! You've done a gorgeous job! What do you think of a red print for the backing and binding? Just something different. It's going to be loved whatever you decide! I saw a little hint of red something on the second picture and I thought it really popped with the quilt top!

Jim's Gem 04-05-2009 01:16 PM

I would use blue for the binding. Maybe think about a narrow, say 2" border of the white and then the blue for the binding. I wouldn't use white for binding, it would get dirty too easy. A blue marble on the back would look great.

Overlander 04-05-2009 01:45 PM

Your quilt is beautiful. I would use the blue to put a 1.5 inch border around it then a 3 inch white border and then bind it in the blue. It will frame it showcasing the quilt.

Catherine 04-05-2009 01:49 PM

what ever you use for the backing would be good for the binding as well. You would be surprised how nice that can look......are you sending it out to be quilted or are you going to do it?

Joan 04-05-2009 02:01 PM

Use the blue print for the binding---maybe for the backing as well!

Lucky boss, you did a beautiful job-

RedGarnet222 04-05-2009 02:09 PM

Oh pretty quilt! She is going to love it!

sewnsewer2 04-05-2009 02:14 PM

Wow that turned out great!! I think the blue would look nice.

Debbie1 04-05-2009 02:16 PM

Gorgeous quilt - I think I would go with the blue from the quilt top.

pocoellie 04-05-2009 02:45 PM

I also like the blue. Beautiful job!!!

sewjoyce 04-05-2009 03:05 PM

Beautiful! I'd use the blue to bind too.

Sharon M 04-05-2009 03:19 PM

Very striking quilt! I agree with you, it is big enough and would probably bind it with the blue. But whatever you do it will looke awesome and be loved :D Great Job

littlehud 04-05-2009 06:06 PM

I like the idea of the blue binding. And I love your quilt. You did great.

amma 04-05-2009 06:25 PM

Oooo Aaaaa I love blue and white quilts :D :D :D

ScubaK 04-05-2009 06:48 PM

Personally for the backing I would go with a dark to Navy blue...
Then I would do a few borders...
Instead of pieced borders I would do a thin, thin blue (1"). Then a thin white (2-2.5"), then another larger blue (3-4") then another thin white(2-2.5") then the widest Blue(4-6")...
Just my 2 stiches...
I love it...

My Vote is blue binding! Quilt looks great, lucky boss!

omak 04-05-2009 07:16 PM

Beautiful quilt, and I would put a red binding on it ... just kidding <g>.
I was wondering .. that blue is really pretty, and I agree about not white on the binding ...
I don't think a border would be needed ... but, what about if you went for a lighter blue for the binding ... the fabric looks like it is textured, and perhaps a light blue would sort of just allow the quilt to blend into the background, while the quilt pattern is front and center.

I will be quilting it. I have a Grace frame with a Juki. I do all my own quilts and some of the charity quilts for the guild. It's fun!

Thanks everyone :!: for the comments. It was a fun one to do. Only 2 different blocks. (The sawtooth and the huge 1/2 square triangle. ) And the points came out pretty nice. I cut the squares a tad large and then trimed them. I think that really helped!
Not much un-sewing needed

CindyBee 04-06-2009 01:58 AM

I love two color quilts! I'm sure your boss will love it too.

reneebobby 04-06-2009 02:06 AM

Nice job

k3n 04-06-2009 02:11 AM

I agree - blue print for the binding and the same for the back if you can get it, if not a mid blue marble would be lovely!

K x

PS Great quilt BTW!

barnbum 04-06-2009 02:25 AM

Wow! What a neat pattern! If we didn't see the background, I'd wonder if it was a wall hanging. It looks like one fancy square. Very cool.

I guess I'd go with a blue border.

It's beautiful!

pawquilts 04-06-2009 02:47 AM

very nice........you did a great job! LOVE the colors and pattern.

key4unc 04-06-2009 03:11 AM

Tat is gorgeous! I think a blue binding would definitely be better than white. Just be sure to take a piece of your blue fabric with you when you go shopping. You'd be amazed at how hard it is to match blues sometimes.

Swan Song 04-06-2009 09:38 AM

Beautiful! I would also use the blue for the binding. I like to use the darkest color from the quilt for a binding I think it makes a kind of frame for the piece. It gives the eye an ending point.

Boston1954 04-06-2009 12:20 PM

I would put a small white border and the blue binding would show up so nice.

MadQuilter 04-06-2009 01:52 PM

All those points.....well done.

KGoodhand 04-06-2009 03:04 PM

You did a great job!
Your boss is a very lucky person!
I agree with what most have said already - I would bind it in blue.
Again great job!!!

sandpat 04-06-2009 03:10 PM

Definetly use the blue in the quilt for the binding and no border..

signitwright 04-06-2009 05:05 PM

Wow, What a lucky boss to receive such a lovely quilt.

I would go with a blue binding, or have you considered Prairie Points?
That is what I thought of as soon as I saw the quilt! :?

Feathers 04-08-2009 06:59 AM

Hi 2Doods: If this were my quilt I would probably put a thin (1 1/4 inch) white sashing around the quilt then I would put about a 2 1/2 inch sashing around the white using the blue in your quilt. For the binding I'd use white but I'm no expert. Dang!!! Just trying to help.
