Bold for a baby - but she'll grow!

Pattern: Warm Wishes. I made it square (44" square) by making it 7 blocks X 7 blocks instead of the 7X9 it called for. That just seemed to big for what I wanted. Borders weren't called for, but added them.
Backing: Fleece from Wal-mart. Binding: storebought satin blanket binding There's no batting in it. My grandsons call these "cozy" quilts. I'm taking it to a baby shower and hope there's not just a bit of silence when it's opened! Certainly not pastel or pink! I just know my grandsons at 4 and 5 still use the bolder larger quilts they were given and not the smaller or "cuter" ones. The butterfly fabric was from a sale shelf on a shop hop. The others were all walmart. The green bled terribly. I hope I got it all out, but soaked it in hot water 4 times - rinsing each time until it ran clear. Then added vinegar in the last soaking. I'll give a box of Color Catchers with it. |
Love it!!!!
I think everyone will love it!!
I like it a lot & I'm sure they will love it!
Babies love bright and bold! It's us who like the softer, sweeter colors - probably because we think of babies as soft and sweet.
I think the mother and her little girl will love it.
Who wouldn't love such a beautiful quilt....a crazy person, maybe. I never had a problem with greens bleeding before. I'll have to watch for that. Love the quilt and the pattern.
Very nice and bright!!
pretty fabric....
It's beautiful!!! I'd have loved something like that, when my DD was born!
Am thinking that'd be perfect for my 9.5 yo DGD, as well! Just may have to copy your idea! :) |
Baby will love it. They see the dark colors and brights better than pastes. Then of course it has fuzzy on the back, a joy to touch and hold. Plus it is so pretty.
Love it. Baby quilts don't have to be pastels. I love bright and bold patterns. All my kids liked them too.
So bright & gorgeous for a baby

Love it! I'm not a fan of pastels for babies - brights are much more visually stimulating.

Love your butterflies! Play /travel quilts are great in bold saturated colors.
Wonderful quilt for a baby! Love the bright colors-Beautiful butterfliy fabric too!
So cute! She will love it even more when she gets older. What little (or big) girl doesn't love purple?!
LOVE the colors! Bold, yes, but it seems to work.
It is a wonderful baby quilt and one the baby is going to love looking at when he/she is a bit older. Great choices in fabric and l like the idea of the soft binding. You did a great job.
This is my second quilt with satin binding. It is a bit tricky. I machine bind (gasp!) and use 1/2" seam allowance to sew it to the back edge of the quilt. Then I pull it over and use a decorative stitch to attach - this was a scallop. For the first one I ended up going over it twice with a blanket stitch and ... I'm not real proud of how it looks, but that binding is NOT going anywhere! This one really did turn out nice - remembering to stop 1/2", not 1/4" from the corner was the trick.
What a bright, beautiful butterfly quilt! I love it & know the little one it's intended for will, too!
That is just a perfect quilt for a baby, years ago it would have been said it was to bright, But not today its so beautiful, you did a great job of it.
Oh, how pretty! She will love it forever! :)
