Ever since I made a blue one for Jim last year, I have been longing to make another Log Cabin in tans, and browns.
This is the first block finished. It will be 5 x 4 blocks. I am thinking of calling it "Earthly". |

I like the browns with the red center. Looks warm and cozy.
|

The Log Cabin block which was originated in the 1860's to honor Abe Lincoln, has traditionally always had a red or gold center square to signify the hearth, or fire burning in the center of your home.
I've never seen a log cabin quilt I didn't like! I need to make one again as I haven't for several years. |
Great block, you fabrics are lovely.

I like your colors.

Like the log cabin pattern, my daughter has choosen that pattern for her grandmother to make her for her wedding quilt when she gets married--not soon. Her grandmother will make it this fall -- in shades of blue -plaine colors no prints, my daughters choice. My mother has only two grandchildern, my son has choosen a double wedding ring in colors of beige and purple-plain and prints, for his grandma to make for his wedding gift-when he gets married.

Beautiful blended colors & it will be fantastic. What color(s) will you make borders & sashings from.

|
Dear MN, I love the log cabin pattern, and haven't seen one I don't like either, but I think your daughter chose the easiest pattern for grandmother to make. If grandmother wants a quick and easy way to make a beautiful wedding ring quilt, give her this address and let her order the book and acrylic template. This is what I used and loved it. Book is "Rings That Bind" by Cheryl Phillips of Phillips Fiber Art, Box 173 Fruita, Col. 81521. email is [email protected] or www.phillipsfiberart.com This is an easy way to make a double wedding ring, you make strips and cut with the arc template.

That's really pretty! It's so funny how we get these pics in our head and then we look and wa-la...it's great!!!

Nice! I'd love to see the finished quilt also when you complete it. Ironically, I have been building a stash of brown and beige fabric because I want to try a log cabin quilt. I'm even more enthused now.
