Hi Gwen,
I am not sure where you found the pattern, but it is really nice. One thing you need to remember is you can draft the pattern out onto graph paper and make it it from there. There really is rows of piecing that is put together to make up the sunflowers. Just look close at your pictures and you will see. Then it is a matter of cutting the pattern apart and adding a quarter inch to the pieces on all sides. I know it sounds like a lot of work. You might be saying to yourself by now, Maybe paying nine or ten dollars for a pattern isn't so bad when you realize how much work it is to do it from the beginning. LoL! Once you have your blocks finished sew them into strips, then sew the strips together to make the top. After it is together, then you do the same for the border. I hope this helps you some. It can be fun to draft out a quilt if you like the process. I have done it many times, and I don't mind the work, but I have the time to do it. |
yes, to make the Points-I too would to them as half square triangles. you would have to draw this out and figure the measurements but it could be done. square or rectangles and hst's.

I tried to do it in EQ6 and came up with this. It came out to a pretty big quilt - 104" x 104" - but could be scaled down. I didn't try to copy the borders exactly. Let me know if this helps.

I wanted to thank all of you for your help. I do think there will be many beautiful sunflower quilts in the future. My daughter is a lover of all things yellow. Her mother-in-law is a professional quilter, but even she didn't think she would be able to do this quilt. If you aren't into sunflowers, you could make the flowers in other colors. Cone Flowers seem to have lots of pinks, rose and magenta, as well as white. Black-eyed-susans are black in the center and have yellow or yellow mixed with red and orange. I hope you all enjoy each others ideas.
