These are hand sewn. I'm just not happy with the way my machine sewn blocks turn out, so I usually sew them by hand.

Wow your blanket stitch is so uniform and perfect, I just assumed you did that by machine. Amazing work!

On the black cat what is that embroidery stitch you use? Is that what they call a chain stitch?

Finally, last question I promise. What technique do you use for your applique? Fusible, needle turn, or prepared (where you baste down your seam allowance before appliqueing to background) or none of the above ?

I have a different way of sewing the blanket stitch. I tie a knot at the top of each stitch to keep them from sagging or leaning over. The black one is embroidered with a back stitch. It looks a bit like a chain stitch because I pierce the thread when I go back instead of coming up next to it. I don't know why but I've always done it that way.... and finally, I do needleturn applique. I find it the easiest, less "have to fuss with it" method. :-)

I have these books as well as the horses, dogs and bunnies. Don't know when I am going to get to them but hope mine look half as good as yours. Nice work. Love the black cats, especially the eyes.
