Cathedral windows vs 10 minute block
 

If you made this quilt how difficult is it? It kinda seems like the 10 minute block, are they made the same, kinda??

No comparison at all. A cathedral windows quilt made the regular way is very labor intensive, but its the perfect quilt to do if you're sitting at your childs practice, at doctors appts, waiting for a repairman, etc.... When you put the pieces together you've got a totally finished quilt -- you don't have batting or a back to apply or quilting to do. It's done. The 10 minute blocks are a fun quilt, and a fast way to put a quilt together, but you'll still have the batting, backing and quilting to do. No way can you compare the two. Actually, when finished they look similar. If you put a third fabric in the center of the 10-minute block and roll the edges of the diamond back over your 3rd fabric and either hand stitch or top stitch, it looks like the real thing.

The real Cathederal Window has a finished back when done properly, the 10-minute window has raw seams on the reverse and must be backed.

There is a machine pieced version of the cathedral windows that is made the same way as the 10 minute block. The only difference is that you add the diagonal square to each corner. When it is pieced originally, you can only see the diagonal squares. Then you add the fabric to the center and fold the edges over that. Now you can see the background and just a sliver of the diagonal fabric around the center.
