Celtic Layers and New Leaves wallhangings

The first quilt is Celtic Layers by Kathleen Andrews. I was so excited to get this pattern at Chicago's International Quilt Fest, I thought it was different and unique. The designer said the celtic designs needed to be hand stitched, but I used my machine. I always look for shortcuts.

The second quilt is New Leaves by Ruth Powers. This was a fun quilt to make. The pattern reads like a counted cross stitch pattern where you make each block individually. Some blocks are paper pieced.

My quilt inspector approves.

The Celtic quilt is simply lovely. Beautiful work. You can surely see fall in the second one.

Both are simply beautiful. Love everything about the Celtic especially the shape. Would like to have one of the leaves, will have to look up that pattern.

Love the leaves....looks like a carpet in the woods.

So unique! How do you go about cutting those skinny circles? Did you fuse them down before sewing? Excellent work!

I love your Celtic quilt. Such great fabrics you selected. I almost fell off my chair since I made the same quilt. Mine is still in three sections (easier to press). I made a few changes in the direction of a few blocks. I pp for the pointed block as a 4" square so there was no matching those angled seams. I also made flying geese units when I could substitute them for two bulky HSTs.

barnbum, if I am not mistaken, that is probably homemade bias that you would cut in the same way of doing stems and such. Most bias tape gadgets now have a way you can not only iron the bias into the thin folded strips, but you can apply the fusible product at the same time as well. This is one gorgeous quilt.

Amazing work! The Celtic just blows my mind and that New Leaves is just beyond my imagination. I love the overlaying of colors.
