I bought this book and kit in Alaska when we were there.

I have this project done out to the red borders. The last "white" border is 16 1/2" and instructions say that the red border should be 18 1/2". That's not right. I have it sewn and it is WAY too long.

Any ideas as to how long the red border should be?

how wide is it?

The strip is 2 1/2 ".

Finished wallhanging is 30X30

Are they figuring the difference to miter corners? In that case, you would start sewing from centers to ends, and end up with equal overhangs to sew at 45*. I can't tell from the picture whether the friendship star is pieced in that or appliqued on top.

If you can imagine this: the wallhanging is done in rings around the center picture.
So the side strip has at the bottom: half triangle square of star and green border.
And then it goes along the side and at the top there is quarter triangle and half triangle( of the star). So the red is like an arrow at the top. That's why the size is so important. It has to fit exactly.

can you post a pic of your block to where you are and the 18 1/2 inch red strip laying next to it so we can see what the problem might be?

Thanks for your help ladies!

I emailed the designer and she assured me that the measurement of 18 1/2 was indeed correct. SO I took it all apart. Ans she was right... because the fabric was part of a kit i cut the strips at 2 1/2 wide but forgot to cut the inch or so off the length... It was my DUH moment for the week!

Don't we all have those moments. I can't tell you how many times I was sure the pattern was wrong and it was I.

Lori--that is a really neat pattern. I am glad you got the fabric length straightened out. Will you promise to post a picture of this when you get it finished?? I would love to see it!
