Was hired to make a quilt for a school auction. So far in the process my very expensive Janome 10000 suddenly stopped and instead of saying ver 3.00 said version 1666.44 ??? and ceased to function. Snowstorms in NJ (Janome headquarters) still have yet to know if it will work again. Very nice and extremely helpful staff at Cotton Patch said prognosis isn't good but they've kindly lent me a machine. The school wants photos of the process. I had just gone outside to get a photo of the top to send to the school my husbands fancy Manfrotto tripod fell snapping a leg and smashing my Lumix camera. On the upside I was able to retrieve the SD card with some tweezers and with great hesitation to touch another electronic device was able to email the photo using my husbands laptop, because mine is broken of course.

There are definitely days when it is best to leave technology alone!

Love your quilt!

ConnieF 03-03-2010 12:50 AM

well when at the bottom there is only one way UP UP and UP
sorry for your bad day

watterstide 03-03-2010 12:55 AM

Boy,you really had a tough one! goodness! on the bright side, the quilt is awesome!
Here's to better days!

Stummel 03-03-2010 02:34 AM

Oh no - hope it lights up soon!
Btw, is this the Cotton Patch in the UK, because they are wonderful and sooo helpful!

melodylamour 03-03-2010 02:47 AM

I feel for ya girl, but my advice is to laugh about it and repeat to yourself, ain't nothing but a thang. If it makes ya feel any better, my 17 yr old fell at school yesterday first thing in the morning (has a bruise now about the size of a man's hand....then last night before going to band practice and church youth group, she dropped her hair straightener and broke that baby into several pieces. I had to spend close to $40 that I really didn't have, but hey I'd rather pinch pennies later than to deal with 2 teen daughters freakin' out cause they can't do anything with their hair at 5:30 in the morning...Oh wait, it's 5:45am right now and ahhhhhhhhhh nice and smooth morning so far. Shhhhhhh mel, don't jinx it, lol Have a great day Holly ;-)

mrspete 03-03-2010 04:32 AM

Life is tedious, and then there's quilting. ~sigh~
Maybe today will be better for you.

quiltingfan 03-03-2010 04:48 AM

Sending you warm wished that today will be a better day.

knlsmith 03-03-2010 04:51 AM

Are you sure we aren't related! Lol. Sounds like one of my days.

earlylace 03-03-2010 05:49 AM

Never fails, when you are doing something really special for something or someone specials, there are always snags! Ripping out seams, broken stuff, can't find stuff,on and on. Maybe we should do our quilting for no reason at all, might work out better! LOL

Justquilting 03-03-2010 05:54 AM

I hate days like that!!
Your quilt is beautiful!!

brushandthimble 03-03-2010 05:58 AM

Love the quilt! Now you need another commission to help replace, the Janome, tripod, and camera.

Candace 03-03-2010 07:14 AM

Better luck touching thing! If it's any consolation my old, rowenta iron started dripping a few days ago. I noticed but didn't think it was anything too important. I just assumed it had stopped when I stopped using the iron. Note to self, don't put leaking iron down and leave it. It dripped down the shelf through the subfloor above and now we have two "leaks" in the livingroom ceiling that I'm going to have to prime and paint. Hubby wasn't too pleased with me.

You know, its really is true - "Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug!" Soon, you will again be the windshield!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 03-03-2010 07:57 AM

Oh, rough day, the story made me giggle though.
Your quilt is beautiful :)

Feathers 03-03-2010 08:34 AM

Holly, I'm so sorry for all the problems you're having...as someone else said, at this point the only way to go now is UP...things have to get better for you. Your quilt IS LOVELY!

If it makes you feel any better, you aren't the only one who is experiencing problems. Last week my computer crashed...got it fixed but ALL MY FILES, ABOUT 4000 PICTURES, THE SPREADSHEET FOR DONATIONS FOR THE ANIMAL RESCUE i VOLUNTEER WITH ARE ALL GONE! I'm taking the "brain" in tomorrow to see if there is anything that is salvagable on the harddrive...it's doubtful, I'm told but I'm going to try to recover some of it. YES! I did have most of my pictures saved on CD's but there are still LOTS that I hadn't yet burned onto the CD so I'm sick....dumb me, I didn't get the spreadsheet saved to the CD so I'll have to re-construct all of that. :x

hcarpanini 03-03-2010 08:43 AM

So let us know how the auction goes! With all your misfortunes, it should raise lots!

jetnica 03-03-2010 08:52 AM

The quilt is BEAUTIFUL!!!

no worries about the other stuff -- i think the cold weather annoys the electronics.

RedGarnet222 03-03-2010 08:59 AM

Holly I am so sorry things keep happening to you like this. I hope that it stops and gets better now.

But, I just love the idea of using the silhouettes of the chidren for the auction quilt. So cute! You have done a wonderful job on it.

Jim's Gem 03-03-2010 12:33 PM

Your quilt is beautiful!!! Sorry you have had such back luck lately!!!

hereca622 03-03-2010 01:46 PM

The quilt is awesome.
Good luck with the auction.

Ditter43 03-03-2010 01:57 PM

The quilt survived in spite of you!! I hope they like it as much as I do!!

STEMSAM 03-03-2010 06:13 PM

Love your quilt. Good luck at the auction. Only
look up not back. The sun will shine again.

sewnsewer2 03-03-2010 08:15 PM

Well bless your heart, you have had a rough time haven't you? I'm so sorry for your problems.

I like your quilt tho! And welcome!

hpylady 03-04-2010 06:14 AM

You go girl! Sounds like one of my days. All you can do is pick up the pieces and continue on. Just laugh at the devil and say, "I'm not gonna get mad"! and then just say "Glory"!

You see you are doing a good cause and the devil doesn't want you to succeed, so he throws stumbling blocks in your path. Just say "Glory"! and keep your good attitude. Don't let the old rascal get his pleasure off your misfortune. You will succeed and when all is done, you will get your reward. Already you have blessed us by sharing this with us. We have been there, done that, in other situations. Have a blessed day!

mimee4 03-04-2010 06:16 AM

Do you have an old quilt to wrap yourself in for the rest of the day? Sounds like an old quilt day.

hpylady 03-04-2010 06:18 AM

Also, you did an awesome job on your quilt. I liked your idea too. Good job! :)

Oh...I hate that you had one of those days....I just hate when that happens, but that quilt sure is a great one! When I saw it, I thought..silhoettes(sp?)....what a GREAT idea! Hope things are going a little better today

Sheree from Chicago 03-04-2010 04:22 PM

I just hate those kinda days! Your quilt is great!

hollyts1963 03-04-2010 06:13 PM

ooooh ouch I hope your hubby is as sweet as mine. When I had to recont what happened and shoe the camera and tripod he just looked and said "thats amazing" in a tone like I'd done a fabulous job breaking ^&&*(. I'm a lucky girl despite my foibles with technical stuff. I understand its just stuff in the end but I was so excited to have a need for my stupid expensive machine and I really enjy taking photos:(.

Thank you everyone for the warm responses. Thanks to the lovely people at the Cotton Patch in Lafayette CA and their loner machine I'm able to keep to finish the project, and because mine broke i discovered their store and was introduced to a whole new quilt world,

zz-pd 03-04-2010 11:10 PM

that is a cute quilt.

maggiemuggins 03-05-2010 08:49 AM

Sounds like the day I had recently when I took my dog to vet to have her nails clipped on the spur of the moment...went in to his office..she definitely was not happy with getting her nails clipped and in the process snapped the leg off of my expensive eye glasses and tore a strip of skin off one of my legs...I told the vet that was an expensive nail clipping...$20.00 for the clipping and $500.00 for a new pair of glasses....LOL

Oklahoma Suzie 03-05-2010 06:06 PM

love it

kacy 49 03-06-2010 06:14 PM

Sounds like a normal day around my house. Your quilt is really cute. Hope your machine gets fixed or they give yo a new one.

watson's mom 03-09-2010 04:53 PM

My computer crashed also and I thought I was going to lose everything. My computer person put the hard drive in the freezer for an hour, it freed up some kind of arm that was preventing him from retreiving the files and he saved everything. I don't know how it worked like that but it may work for you also. It is worth a try to save all your files. Good luck if you try it.

adriansmom 03-09-2010 06:08 PM

First, I'm sorry you are having such a bad time at this. The quilt is beautiful, it will be all worth it in the end. Second, in my life the old adage is true...If it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!

littlehud 03-13-2010 08:11 PM

Your quilt is beautiful, but I would leave all electronics along if I was you. :-D :-D :-D :-D Seriously, we all have days ( or weeks like that) Great job on the quilt.
